Once known as the ‘Eton of the North’, Fordyce was regarded as one of the most important and significant educational centres in Scotland; indeed Aberdeen University regarded it as its most important feeder of the times.
One recently rediscovered fact is that Fordyce Academy played a vital part in the establishment of association football in Scotland, with three alumni of the famous school being instrumental in the founding of Queens Park Football Club.
Fordyce today is an extremely well kept village, with great care being taken by the local population to keep the village as attractive as possible.
Fordyce boasts the ‘Joiners Workshop’, which shows off traditional woodworking skills in action and the adjacent museum which is open to the public.
Within a mile and a half of the village lies Sandend Beach and the historic Glenglassaugh Distillery; both of which provide excellent sightseeing opportunities.
